****The planned concert of lis à lis on October 5 is cancelled. The program - Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben with a new textual version by Lisa Läng - cannot meet the framework for the concert series offered by the University of Zurich. In agreement between lis à lis and guerillaclassics, the concert will therefore not take place. The program will be performed at a later date in a different setting.****
Frauenliebe und -leben is a cycle of nine poems by Adelbert Chamisso. This is about the life of a woman in the bourgeois 19th century. The focus is on love - first with her husband-to-be ("He, the most glorious of all") and then with her child ("Only a mother alone knows what loving means and being happy"). Robert Schumann composed the song cycle of the same name for voice and piano in 1840. His work already ends with the eighth poem, which deals with the death of the husband, as if the life of the protagonist would end with it.
In order to be able to perform the music of Schumann's song cycle Frauenliebe und -leben without reproducing sexist role models, singer Lisa Läng rewrote the texts without further ado. Frauen*leben und Liebe - vom feministischen Erwachen einer weiblich sozialisierten Person is an autobiographical work that deals with growing up, queer love and identity, activism and self-care in a patriarchal world.
